The Blurr
How do you speak to a beauty audience on shelf? How would they know this product was made just for them?
An entire sector of beauty consumers were making a major transition from chemical relaxers to more natural products. In a landscape that was outdated and complicated, Founder Maeva Heim saw the need for a brand that spoke to her generation in a $500B~ beauty market.
The goal: to create not only products, but a community that allowed people of color to feel seen and accepted as they are, giving back time spent on their beauty routines so that they could spend time on what’s important. We began asking these questions with the founder in Bread’s early days, of which Bread was accepted into Sephora’s 2019 Accelerator Program for further brand and product development.

Jessica Dimcevski (Creative – Director, Blurr) met Maeva Heim (Founder, Bread) in 2018 after returning from living in New York. Maeva at the time, struggling to get local investors to see her vision for a more natural haircare brand for women of color was looking for brand development assistance. After an introduction to each other from a friend, the rest is history.
Blurr’s work provided the foundational creative direction for the brand, a realization of the founder’s vision of self-expression for the modern, millennial and centennial consumer. Brand assets were created with both the founder and target audience, igniting a community of women inspiring and connecting through self-awareness and acceptance.
User-generated content and lo-fi photography aesthetics were used across the brand, both on shelf (packaging) and online to deepen this connection and relatability, with products made for – and with – the customer.
